Flashback Friday: French Twist Connection

This hairstyle will be easiest if you first straighten all of the hair.  (Your princess may already have straight hair but my princess needs some help to get her completely straight.)  You can curl the ends too if you like.  

 Grab the middle-bang section from the front of the head and begin twisting it.  Each time you wrap the twist, gather in some new hair and twist again.  Continue gathering hair until you get to the ear and then finish twisting without adding anything in.  Have your princess hold that twist while you move over to the other side of the head and create another small French Twist - ending the addition of any new hair into it once you get to the ear. 

 Twist the remaining hair on that side as well and then combine your two twist together on top of the head with an elastic.  Add a flower clip to hide the elastic and the hairstyle is complete.

Flashback Friday: Pull-Through Rolls

I wish I had gotten a closer picture of this hairstyle but I had no idea I would ever be sharing it with anyone so I was a little ill-prepared. 

 Start by parting the hair down the middle and separating it into two halved.  Pull each side up into a piggie and create an Inverted Pull-Through out of each.  (This is done by poking your Topsy tail up wards behind the piggie instead of downwards.)  Once the hair is flipped through, you can roll the ends down over themselves and pin them into place.   This will give you a little roll sitting on top of your Inverted Pull-Through. 

 My princess was running around the party all night long so the ends slowly started to come undone but it almost looked better this way - a bit of a disheveled look!

Flashback Friday: Toddler French Braids

When my princess was very little and hardly had hair, we used to do fake French Braids with elastics (Puffy Braids) but once she finally had enough hair, we were doing French Braids all the time. 

We would start by curling her bangs forward and then dividing the rest of the hair in half to create two separate braids.   

We secured the bottom of the two braids together with an elastic and then placed a bow over the elastic to hide it.  We happened to be at the Alpine Slides in Park City, UT at this particular time and my princess was a little scared - to say the least - but at least I got a picture of her hair!

Flashback Friday: Pajama Day

This is our final Flashback Friday and it's been fun to add a few of these old hairstyles into the mix.   On this particular day my daughter's school was having a "Pajama Day". 

We had talked about how she would be wearing things that she wore to bed and she quickly piped up and suggested that we put pink curlers in her hair since she wears those to bed.  I thought that was a great idea and so she went to school with pink overnight curlers in her hair.  She was quite the hit at school and she had darling curls when we took them out!

Flashback Friday: Flipped Piggies

I love this style and there is really nothing to it. 

 We separated her hair into two equal halves by creating a zig-zag part down the middle of her head.  Each side was pulled up into a piggie and then we pulled out the large fat curling iron. 

We curled the ends of the piggies so that they flipped out and then topped each one off with a bow.  She had a program at church that day and she looked darling for it.

Flashback Friday: Locks of Love

My daughter has donated her hair twice to Locks of Love but these pictures are from her first time. 

 Her bangs had finally grown to a nice length and she wanted to do something different with her hair so we decided to chop the length off and even it all out with those bangs. 

She was a little sad at first to see it all gone but as soon as we went home and styled it she was fine. 

We flipped all of her ends out with a mid-sized curling iron and the bang area up and clipped it back with two bendy clips creating and "X".  She looked so cute and the length looked great on her. 

 She was very happy to know that her hair was going to someone that could really use it and couldn't wait until she had enough to donate it again!

Flashback Friday: Crazy Hair Day

My princess was 5 years old in this picture and it was her school's "Crazy Hair Day".  I asked her what she wanted to do for her big day and she came up with this hairstyle all by herself. 

We divided the hair directly down the middle and pulled each side up into a piggie.  I dried both sides and pulled out my irons - a flat iron and a ringlet curling iron.  I straightened one side of her head and then made lots of tiny ringlets on the other. 

 It was funny to see how much longer one side ended up being than the other! 

She definitely looked crazy for her big day!

Flashback Friday: Wet-Pinned Curls

Wet-Pinned Curls can take some time to prep for but they have such a beautiful final look.  Start with the hair really wet and make sure you pull it up into any initial style before creating your curls.  Grab a box of bobby pins to have at your side before you start. 

Section out some mall pieces of hair - they can be medium or small, depending on how think you would like your curls.  Starting with the end of the hair, wrap it in a circular motion all the way up to the scalp and then pin it against the head using two bobby pins to create an "X" for maximum hold.  Your curls can be would as tightly or as loosely as you like just depending on how large or small you want your curls.  Continue wrapping and pinning sections of hair all around the head.  When you are finished your princess will resemble a 20's Flapper with all the wet tight curls against her head.  I wish I had taken a picture at this point but back in the day I never had a reason to do that!  :)  The hair will take about 3 hours to set.  (You can speed up that time by using a warm dryer to dry the hair.) 

When you're ready, take the pins out of the hair and let the curls fall loosely.  Spray the hair with a bit of hairspray to help hold the curls and you're all finished!

Flashback Friday: Ring of Flowers

This hairstyle was from Easter 2008 when my princess was finally starting to get excited about her hair.  (Yes, there was a time when she HATED getting her hair done, just like any normal little girl.  She LOVES it now though.) 

 

Her little Easter dress had tiny rosettes all over it so I made some little hairpins for her hair by hot gluing crafting rosettes to bobby pins. 

I created a high Angel Halo on her head first.  (Click for instructions.)  Then I placed the rosettes into the halo in a mixed pattern.  

All the bobby pins helped to hold the halo tightly and it looked beautiful all day long.  

It even held together as she ran around like a wild child finding all the Easter eggs hidden around her playhouse!  :)

1-Year Anniversary & Flashback Friday: The Long Bang

It's official we have been posting hairstyles on this blog for one year now!  There are 250 posts on our site which should give you a large variety to choose from.  It's been so much fun to have this special little something to do with my princess but it's also been fun to hear from all of you readers out there.  I get several emails but I rarely get comments and I do LOVE COMMENTS.  :) 

 For today we have a flashback from when my princess was 5 years old.  We had been growing out her bangs for a little while and decided to put their length to use. 

We pulled her hair half up and then grabbed out two small sections of her bangs.  Using a fat curling iron we curled the ends of the sections.  Pretty simple but she looked very grown up that day.  :)
