Friday's Film: 4 Strand Headband With Flower

My princess came up with the idea for this hairstyle this morning and it's a fairly simple one.  Be sure to start with wet hair and have some small elastics, bobby pins, and hair accessories ready. 

I apologize for my voice, I had just recently gotten over a cold. 

For our finished product I went back and did one more 4 Strand Braid and another flower. 

The 4 Strand Braids do not need to have the "squished" effect but I was just looking for something that wasn't so linear. 

My flowers are different sizes but you can really shape them to be any size you like. 

I left the rest of the hair straight down but you can finish it off any way you like.

Squish!

I've done these braids many times before and they never get old for us.  We love the Squish Braids!  This is just a bit of a different take on them but still a very simple hairstyle. 

Begin by sectioning out some hair along the bang line in the front.  Set it aside and then pull the rest of the hair back into a ponytail. 

 Divide the section of hair in fron tinto two pieces.  Secure each area with an elastic. 

 Now (making sure the hair is VERY wet) create a loose regular 3-Strand Braid.  When you get to the end of the braid, hold onto the middle strand and pull it tightly while you squish the other two strands up toward the elastic. 

 Even it out so it looks the way you want and then add it into the ponytail with another elastic. 

Repeat these steps to create another Squish Braid with the other section. 

Once all of the hair is in the ponytail, take a small section of hair from underneath and wrap it around to hide the elastic.  Now grab your Topsy Tail and pull the end of the wrapped section through the bottom of the ponytail to secure it.  (Make sure it is also pulled through the elastic for a tighter hold.) 

 Now you can add a hair clip if you want or just leave it "naked".  :)

Squish Braids

You never knew there were so many types of braids did you?! You can use Squish Braids in practically any style and here we've just added them to some piggies for church. First section out the hair that you want to braid and just create a traditional 3-strand braid but make sure that it's a bit loose. (This works best when the hair is damp.) When you're at the end of your braid, hold the middle strand and simple "squish" the other two strand up towards the scalp. You can spread out the squish to however tight or loose you would like it. Now just add those braids with the rest of the hair to make your piggies on both sides. We went ahead and made Hawser Braids in her piggies. Hawser Braids are essentially two Corksrews twisted together. A quick spray and she's all ready for church!
